As the world anticipates the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, the spotlight is on the pivotal role of youth leaders masked as global leaders in shaping the future of climate action. Aligned with the objectives of COP29, SERAC, in collaboration with Youth Coalition for Climate Justice (YCCJ) and The Climate Reality Project (India & South Asia), unveiled a groundbreaking MOC International dialogue: 'Climate Action: Power Talks with Global Leaders'. On April 27, 2024, in Dhaka, this dialogue brought together representatives (portraying heads of state and government) from 11 focused countries, sparking a passionate exchange of ideas, strategies, and concrete elucidations to address climate-related challenges.
This dialogue transcends mere rhetoric; it signifies a powerful fusion of youth leadership and diplomatic finesse. Under the chairmanship of SM Shaikat, Executive Director of SERAC and founder of YCCJ, and moderated by Tasnia Ahmed, YCCJ Coordinator, participants assumed the personas of global leaders, breaking down borders and embracing collaboration. With masks embodying the faces of presidents and prime ministers, these young delegates articulated bold visions and advocated for tangible actions to mitigate climate change impacts with adaptive and concrete approaches.
Against the backdrop of looming climate crises, this dialogue served as a guiding light, illuminating pathways toward a sustainable future. Together, these masked ambassadors delved into pressing issues, from securing vital funding for climate initiatives to accelerating progress toward the objectives outlined in the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement.
As the world watches, these youth leaders stand ready to inspire, catalyzing transformation and spearheading a movement toward climate justice. We are requesting to join us on this historic journey, where youth empowerment intersects with diplomatic dialogue, and the voices of the future resonate with unwavering resolve.
